Well-kept Pets

My regrets are long,

and have sharp teeth,

nipping at my ankles

as they dart and skitter about,

jostling and romping with my grudges,

nestling against them at night

for warmth.

 

I know them by their colors,

the older ones greying

as they lose their new blueness

over time.

All different, but

answering to a single name:

Shoulda, Shoulda, Shoulda…
